March 2022 communication to members

Glenmaggie 2022 Entries now open (April 16-17)

The OMCC showpiece event of the year, the Glenmaggie Easter Trial, is happening again April 16th & 17th.

After a couple of disrupted years, OMCC are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Glenmaggie 2022 Easter Trial…in particular our interstate friends. We have caught wind of a QLD contingent planning to head south!

As if two days riding and camping isn’t enough, we aim to run training on the Friday 15th prior to the event with groups for kids (up to C grade) at 1pm-3pm and the adults later in the afternoon. More details on this coming in future updates.

Please note: Early entry discounted until 31st March. Entries close 13th April 9pm.

Glenmaggie Section Setting (April 8-10)

We will need the help of as many as possible to get Glenmaggie ready. The plan is to camp and set sections on Friday April 8th – Sunday April 10th.

Please let us know if you can help us.

Last year we had an amazing turnout and we are keen to repeat the success.

Assume you will need gardening gloves, whipper snippers/brush cutters, gardening shears.

Working Bee (March 20)

The first working bee of 2022 is on March 20th. If you’ve not revisited the calendar since we first published please be aware of a date change. We announced in previous communications that it got moved to accommodate the VTS series. Members need only attend 2 of the 3 scheduled, so it’s OK if you can’t make this one.

Normal format is a working bee in the morning from 10am-12:30pm, a BBQ lunch, and then a ride in the afternoon.

Please Bring:

  • Whipper Snipper
  • A Wheel Barrow (if it’s not a big inconvenience…only need a few)
  • Gardening shears
  • Gardening gloves
  • Chisel/Paint scrapers
  • Staple removers

Focus of the working bee:

  • Trim the long glass
  • Spray weeds
  • Pick up glass/debris from grounds
  • Clean section setting gear (remove silicon/staples)
  • Organise the section setting gear into separate backpacks
  • Prune overhanging branches around the fence

Even more ground works

The guys are still at it and more sections keep popping up! We’ve taped off areas to allow the ground to settle, but it’s getting very interesting now and we can’t wait to see what is next.

Work will continue sporadically over the next couple of months based on volunteers availability and the club is grateful to have such capable volunteers with access to the necessary equipment to make all this happen!

If you have access to any of the following: large rocks, logs, transport for rocks and logs, and CLEAN soil…please let John Wilson and Craig Genner know.

Adult Beginner & Junior Coaching Day wrap up (Feb 27)

The weather was ideal for training and it was great to see so many kids having a fun time.  Thanks to the trainers Justin Stone, Geoff & Tim Lewis, Les Patterson and Stan & Zac Mularczyk. Many thanks to Janina and Chris’s help to supply a really nice lunch yet again.

All the kids enjoyed the fun activities and joined in the Treasure Hunt and were rewarded with their haul of Lollies and chocolate coins.

The Adults and kids reported that the training was really good and a lot of basics were covered by our experienced trainers.

Next kids training will be held at the Glenmaggie trial on Good Friday.

Round 1 of the AMA Winter Series – Mirboo North (3rd April)

After the fantastic Fun Trial run by STR on the 6th March at Ranceby we are gearing up for the first round of the joint OMCC & STR winter series. You can expect more rolling hills of Gippsland!

Keep an eye out for entries on www.trials.com.au in the coming weeks.

Chris Bayles training weekend (April 30-1 May)

Entries will open in the coming weeks.

This has been confirmed for the weekend of 30th April-1st May. Places will be limited and we expect it to sell out fast for one of Australia’s best riders who has delivered such significant improvements to the talent of riders in Tasmania, and also part of the 2017 TdN International winning team!

We will split the coaching into “Level Up” and “Beginners”. “Level Up” on Saturday is for those riders C+ and above who are looking to push their skills to the next level. “Beginners” would be targeted at those in White and Blue plates.

Pricing will be $100 per rider and priority will be given to OMCC Annual Members. Stay tuned in the coming month or so for more details on this one.

New Website Feature for Meetings & March Club Meeting (17 March)

To accommodate a few of us being away at the Tassie Titles, we have pushed back the Club Meeting to Thursday 17th March 2022 @ 7:30pm.

Check out this and all future meeting dates at the new page on the club website that Simon Watts built: https://www.oakleighmcc.com/club/club-meetings/

It will give you a Google and iPhone friendly ‘Add to calendar’ button for the meetings.
