Jan 2022 Communication to members

Happy new year to all our members and friends of the club. We are going to try and consolidate our communication to members going forward and provide multiple updates at once.

Membership Renewals

We’ve had a fantastic response so far for 2022 club membership however as a reminder can all members who are yet to renew their membership please do so at the earliest opportunity, and before their next ride at the club.

2022 Memberships are online now:  https://www.oakleighmcc.com/membership-forms/annual-membership/

Round 3 Summer Series

We are back with the first trial of 2022 with entries now open for R3 of the summer series. In recognition of the current COVID outbreak, we want to remind riders that the club will offer a refund to anyone who is unable to attend due to ill health.

Scores were a little high in the last round so we plan to address that this time and set things a bit easier. Also, A graders (T2) are encouraged to get your entries in early otherwise we will not set sections.

2022 Calendar

The 2022 calendar is out now. It’s a combo of OMCC and STR events and it’s with genuine hope we get a chance to run a full year of events.

https://www.oakleighmcc.com/2022-calendar/

Winter series kicks off with the STR run Ranceby event on 6th March.

There will be a 5 round winter series run in conjunction with STR, with rounds 4 & 5 also being our AMA Vic Titles weekend.

We will also continue to run more training events as we have heard the feedback from our members that they really valued this last year. There may be some impromptu junior coaching as well.

There are 3 working bees at the club grounds this year, and it remains an expectation that our members contribute a small amount of time to keep our club looking good and grounds in good condition. The usual format is 2 hours of work followed by a BBQ lunch, then a ride in the afternoon. We have made a decision to run 3 this year, however members only need to attend two. Choose the two that work best for you; however the club will continue to monitor attendance.

Glenmaggie Easter Trial

We look forward to welcoming the return of many of our interstate guests again now that a lot of the border restrictions are being wound back. As a result, we are expecting this year’s event to be very popular.

Members are encouraged to help us with the working bee the weekend prior to set sections and do some clearing which we are told will be required.

More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Hoodies & Beanies

The club will be doing a new run of hoodies & beanies. Anyone who would like to place an order please contact Greg Chalmers so we can gauge numbers: [email protected]

Hoodies will be available in grey & black. Sizing runs slightly larger than usual, so it’s recommended to size down.

For examples check out the website: https://www.oakleighmcc.com/club/official-club-gear/

Entries open: R3 of OMCC Summer Series – 29th Jan

We are back with the first trial of 2022. Scores were a little high in the last round so we plan to address that this time and set things a bit easier. Also, A graders (T2) are encouraged to get your entries in early otherwise we will not set sections.

In recognition of the current state of COVID cases, if you are unable to attend due to illness, you will get a full refund to encourage riders to stay home if you become unwell.

If you are able to help observe please let us know.

Spectators welcome, dealers bikes will be on display, and join us for a BBQ at the end of the trial.

The OMCC Committee supports the government’s vaccination program, especially given the fact the full resumption of the activities of our Club and the broader community, are almost entirely dependent on vaccination rates. As a result, it is a condition of entry for anyone attending the Club to be fully vaccinated (subject to medical exemption, age eligibility).

Round 1: Sat 13th Nov 2021
Round 2: Sat 18th Dec 2021

Round 3: Sat 29th Jan 2022
Round 4: Sat 19th Feb 2022

Entries close Thursday 27th midnight.

AGM Wrap up, Awards & New Life Member

Hello OMCC Members,

The AGM was held Sunday, and before we go into the new committee we would like to thank our outgoing president Peter Wines for his remarkable effort to help the club over the turmoil of the last two years. We are fortunate to have Peter willing to stay on as a general committee member so he will remain connected with the club, and his 15 years of service on the committee continues. Thank you Peter.

We are proud to announce Greg Chalmers was nominated as OMCC’s newest Life Member. Greg has worked tirelessly over the years since joining the club in a range of capacities. On top of his work on the committee he has been essential at running trials events including the Vic Titles, getting qualified as a Level 3 coach and official, and working on one event that required 5 weekends worth of effort to clear and prep prior to running a trial! Congratulations Greg.

Due to a reduced season, the committee nominated to do a reduced set of awards; congratulations to our award winners:

  • Mark Beechey Award (Highest Total Points in a season): Reece Chalmers
  • Most Improved Award: Simon Watts
    • An honourable mention on most improved goes to Matt Kerr who’s improvement this year has also been impressive.
  • Encouragement Award: John Kontsellis
  • President’s Award: Stan Mularczyk

We are pleased to announce our new committee which is as follows:

  • President: David Grice
  • Vice President: Peter Spencer
  • Secretary: Simon Watts
  • Assistant Secretary: Matt Kerr
  • Treasurer: Greg Chalmers
  • Ground Supervisor: John Wilson
  • Assistant Ground Supervisor: Craig Genner
  • General committee: Reece Chalmers, Peter Wines, Stan Mularzyk, Zac Mularczyk & Chris Grubb.

There are some departures as a result of the new changes and we would like to extend a big thank you to Grant Philips, Justin Stone Steven Carter and Les Pattinson for their efforts over the last year.

The club is very lucky to have such a supportive group of volunteers who are working to make the club a better place.

Year end wrap up, Key dates inc. AGM & call for volunteers

Hello members,

As the year winds down, we wanted to take a moment to ensure you keep some key dates in mind and reflect on the accomplishments of the last year.

Some of the key achievements in the last year include:

  • The club has set an annual membership record, and on top of that we have had 84 day members
  • Had 1500+ sign-ins via the QR codes which would have been even more if it weren’t for lockdown. It’s great to see the club getting so much use.
  • Secured new trial property at Scarsdale (trial cancelled due to lockdown…there is always next year!)
  • Record attendance at working bee…it’s great to see so many active volunteers amongst the club
  • Repainted the club rooms
  • Installed new lighting in the club room
  • Installed new furniture in the club rooms
  • Club room clear out
  • Continued ground works, with more planned (waiting on soil)
  • Drainage and flooding issues appear to be resolved with the works on the adjacent hill complete and grass growing in
  • Finalised last year’s summer series which was a roaring success
  • Got ~20 people competing in trials for the very first time
  • Ran Glenmaggie, and two winter series rounds
  • Added flexibility to opening hours…Early start on some Thursdays, Melb Cup public holiday, Tuesdays via arrangement.
  • Ran a well received training day (more to follow next year)
  • Navigated the various government COVID mandates and lockdowns
  • Navigated the loss of MV dual affiliation
  • In response to member feedback we have created a dedicated club WhatsApp group

We look forward to another big year at OMCC and there are plenty of plans to further improve the club, and club grounds, update the kitchen, as well as a simpler membership renewal process and sign on procedure (less fields, remove the need for your AMA expiry date etc). We also aim to continue offering opening hours flexibility however this is also subject to supervisor availability so if you are able to help be a grounds supervisor more details are below on how to get involved.

AGM 12th Dec

As per the clubs calendar we will be having our annual general meeting, BBQ and presentation day on Sunday 12th December. There will be a BBQ lunch and the AGM at 1pm.

OMCC Re-opening Sunday 24th Oct & Vaccination confirmation process

Hello Members,

Great news! We will be back open Sunday 24th.

Party Popper Png Clipart (1024x1024), Png Download

As per previous communication, the process to register your vaccination status with the club is discussed below. Please ensure you submit your evidence ASAP so you can ride as soon as we re-open.

The first Thursday twilight back will be: Thu 28th Oct

There will also likely be an extended opening around Melbourne Cup Weekend however we will communicate more once we get closer.

Process to register your vaccine confirmation is as follows:

1.       Send us a evidence of your vaccination confirmation to: [email protected]

a.       Acceptable versions include screenshots from MyGov/Service Victoria Apps, PDFs

2.       We will track each members status on our membership database, and make available for internal use amongst committee and grounds supervisors

3.       The club will delete this information once it has been sighted and  simply record a status flag in our database.

There will be no ‘booking’ process to ride due to our ratio of riders to open space, however do not attempt to ride at the club grounds without first submitting your vaccination certificate evidence.

Thank you to those who have already sent your evidence before being asked!

Oakleigh MCC’s response to COVID-19 and a plan to re-open

Hello Members,

We know all has been quiet on the trials front and we would all love to be back on our bikes ASAP. The future does look promising now for a sustained opening and ability to plan for the future. That path, laid out by the Victorian Government, is highly dependent on vaccination rates but assuming all things go well we can expect significant freedom (relatively speaking) when 80% of Victorian’s aged 12+ are fully vaccinated – which is anticipated to occur in mid to late November. There are milestones in between which are accompanied by further easing of restrictions giving us much-needed light at the end of a long tunnel.

The Victorian Government position on competitions being conducted across any sport is a blanket rule, so while the remainder of the 2021 calendar remains in doubt, we are aiming our effort towards another summer twilight series (based at the club grounds) however if the opportunity presents itself to run non-club ground events we will look into it.

An earlier date for re-opening of the club grounds for practice is discussed below.

A COVID Safe Club Grounds Reopening

Consistent with the directions of the Chief Health Officer of Victoria for the conduct of Covid-safe outdoor sport, when we re-open, OMCC are obliged to adhere to a “No Jab, No Play” policy at the club as has been done at other similar sporting bodies (Link1 Link2 Link3).

Scarsdale postponed; remaining 2021 OMCC calendar tentative

OMCC committee have met and agreed to postpone the Scarsdale trial schedule for Sunday 5th September.

A new date will be confirmed when we get some certainty about the lockdown situation. We are committed to trying to run this event if we can.

However, it’s predicted that we will not have enough time left to run all the events we have intended, so in short:

  • you should treat the remaining 2021 calendar as tentative until further notice
  • it’s likely some events may not run

Stay safe everyone.

Regards, David Grice obo OMCC Committee.
