Mt BawBaw Trial Results

Once again, the ski fields of Mt BawBaw produced a great trial with plenty to offer for all.

Many spectators were blown away with the “trial’s activity” being seen on the sky slopes and Mt BawBaw management very pleased with the way this sport is conducted.

7 sections from last year and 1 new one used with all existing being re-arrowed to give that new section feel.

With A, Expert and juniors doing 4 laps and the rest of the field completing 5 gave all riders and full days riding with not too much time left at the end.

Canberra’s Luke Anderson rode superbly to take out the A/Expert combined class on 32 pts with passed champion Dean Nuttall on 61 pts in 2nd and Zac Malarczyk with 71 pts in 3rd with also being the only riding doing the Expert lines.

With the Masters and B grade class combined, the older (or more experienced) riders took out the places with Simon VB in 1st, Phil Lewis in 2nd and Peter Wines in 3rd.

With Pat Sutton moving to B grade for the first time, it was Reece Chalmers taking out C+, Josh Aureri in 2nd and Bryce Robinson in 3rd.

Ben Hayes convincingly took out the C grade class with 2nd and 3rd place being quite close with Brad Watson edging out Bazil Tambanis.

Vets 40+ was also close with newly returned to the sport rider Tim Lloyd in 1st, Les Patterson in 2nd and John Rees in 3rd.

It was great to see the juniors getting around and having great fun also with Charlie Masovic, Sophie Haynes and Xavier Moore taking pops around (Steve Johnson).

Keep tuned for next year’s event with lots of new sections being considered further away from the ski centre.

Congratulations to OMCC for the huge effort getting this venue up and running and of course, all the officials and observers giving up their time for others to ride.

OMCC’s TDN Fundraiser Training weekend

Cold and wet weather couldn’t stop 20 riders participating in the Oakleigh Motorcycle Club’s TDN training weekend.

Chris Bayles of Tasmania gave plenty of great tips for Saturday’s B, C+ grade and Sunday’s C, Clubman graded riders.

All riders commented on Chris’s great coaching advise and techniques with everybody improving their performance by the end of the day.

Not only great tips were given but a full smorgasbord of food complimenting the BBQ lunch was well received.

This is the 2nd year the OMCC has supported the TDN team and wishes them great success at this year’s Spanish TDN event.

CHRIS BAYLES Training weekend – 5th & 6th Aug.

Once again, OMCC will be running a training weekend at the club on the 5th and 6th Aug.

This is not just for club members but anyone that would like to travel to the Oakleigh MCC grounds and participate. Just bring your trials bike and MV licence. We will have “come and try day permits” for those that don’t have a licence.

Chris Bayles who was runner up to Kylie Middleton in last year’s Australian Titles is excited to give up his time to come over and present training to all levels of riders from Juniors right through to Experts.

Chris is a very down to earth guy with a huge amount of talent & experience which he’s only too happy to pass on his knowledge to anybody that participates in the training.

Like last year, OMCC will presented a cheque to the TDN team to help them get over to Spain for this year’s event.

We will be running 2 full day sessions at a cost of $70 per rider with lunch provided.

Saturday at 10am until 3:30pm and Sunday from 9:30am until 3pm.

It would be good to have “C+ grade and above on Saturday” and “C grade and below on Sunday” but this may change depending on when most riders can fit their time in.

So once again, don’t miss this great opportunity as 1st in 1st served.

Just email your participation to: [email protected]

Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort Trial event

The Oakleigh Motorcycle Club has just secured the Mt Baw Baw Alpine Ski Resort for a motorcycle trial’s event on the 25th and 26th March.

Normally used in the winter months for “snow skiing etc” and summer months for “downhill & cross country mountain bike riding”, it’s now going to cater for what maybe the 1st time a trial has ever been run at a ski resort in Australia.

For some of you that have visited this area, the sections will be placed on the rocks around the main car park area and along the valley heading to the downhill skiing area.

Naturally there will be plenty of accommodation at the resort and meals at the main restaurant for all to enjoy. We may even have Rob Austin entertaining us with his guitar playing and singing skills.

“Supp Regs” and “accommodation details” will be posted in the short future so pen this down in your diaries and hope to see you all there.
